Film Festivals

Documentary film, the cinematographic representation of the real, is an art in flux. And the Festival dei Popoli would like to think hard about such a state of flux. While not abandoning its anthropological roots, documentary film should open itself up to the world by exploring new cinematographic forms and not limit itself to strict rules. While adhering to recognizable tenets, it should investigate a plurality of cinematographic expression, expanding our idea of the state of things and adding new directions for documentaries. By widening our own scope, we hope to achieve a closer relationship with the current times, which, within a discussion of mis-en-scene, mixes fact and fiction, even while risking undermining its audience’s greatest securities.
