Umbria Jazz Festival 2008 is, without any doubt, one of the most important event dedicated to jazz in Europe. Since 1973, when was inaugurated the first edition of the Festival Umbria Jazz, the biggest jazz artists have come to Perugia: during the '70 Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Rivers, Herbie Hanckok, Enrico Rava, Miles Davis, Lionel Hampton and during the more recent editions of the festival Dedee Bridgewater, Gilberto Gil , Milton Nascimento, Terence Blanchard, Paolo Conte, Vinicio Capossela, Nicola Arigliano, Miriam Makeba, Renzo Arbore and its Swing Maniacs, Sergio Cammariere, The Coolbone Brass Band of New Orleans, Lyle Henderson & Emmanuel Gospel Singers.

All on classic and lyric music in the city of Ravenna.

The fortified city of Spoleto for two months (June and July) hosts events and symphony performances of operas, concerts and chamber music. In Italian and English.

OPERA THEATRE AND MUSIC FESTIVAL OF LUCCA marks its 13th season in 2008, and will run from June 15 to July 19.Founded in 1996 by Lorenzo Malfatti and Malcolm Fraser, Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca has quickly established itself as a comprehensive European study and performance experience for singers, instrumentalists, accompanists, assistant conductors and stage technicians. The five-week Festival is an accredited summer program of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), one of America’s foremost institutions for professional education in the performing arts. Centro Koinè, the distinguished language institute in Lucca, serves as a co-organizer of the program.

Rototom Sunsplash is one of the largest reggae festival in Europe.Ever since 1994, when the festival first started, it has been drawing thousands of young people from every corner of the world to North-eastern Italy: every year, the Rivellino Park in Osoppo becomes a multi-ethnic village where people live together under banner of peace, respect and freedom.Last year over 150,000 persons attended the festival: most of them camped at the venue, either in camper vans or tents, whereas others booked rooms in the various hotels and bed & breakfasts in the environs. Everything was sold out for a radius of 30 km.
