Favignana

The three islands that form a mini-archipelago off Trapani are called Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo; they count some 4,600 inhabitants. All three are blessed with lovely coastlines immersed in glorious crystal-clear water. The islands which are known to have been inhabited since prehistoric times (indeed, it is thought that Levanzo and Favignana formed part of the main island of Sicily in the Palaeolithic times), witnessed a very important event in Antiquity: for it was in these waters that the treaty sealing an end to the First Punic War (241 BC) was signed, whereby Carthage assigned Sicily to the Roman Empire.

Favignana is a beautiful Mediterranean island; the air is filled with perfumes, colours and traditions. It's the largest of the Egadi Islands, the others being Levanzo, Marettimo, Formica and Maraone . It covers an area of 20 Km² and has a coastline perimeter of 33 km. About 3,500 inhabitants live in the town itself. The island is mainly flat with just one small mountain, Monte Santa Caterina. Favignana has an incomparably beautiful land- and seascape. The sea is blue and crystal clear whilst the coast is prevalently rocky but most of the numerous, sandy beaches are easy to reach, especially the ones on the south coast.

Favignana, together with the smaller isles of Marettimo and Levanzo, form part of the AegadianIslands. The recently constructed Favignana Hotel can be found on the island of the same name in the principal town of the Aegadian Isles (Protected Marine Area). The hotel has been built in traditional Mediterranean style and the interiors are characterised by the soft and pleasant colours that make the atmosphere of this hotel so pleasurable and relaxing.
