Parco del Lago Trasimeno
Trasimeno and its territory were part of Etruria and the tombs and Etruscan remains were found above all in the area of Castiglione del Lago. The Romanization of the area took place with the battle of 217 b.C when Hannibal eliminated the legions and 16.000 soldiers lost their lives in the hills above Tuoro and on the banks of the lake. Rome left its traces with its great hydraulic science to the Trasimeno with the construction of the first emissary destined to regularize the level of the waters and to prevent flooding, anticipating a technology which was repeated by Braccio Fontebraccio and again in our days.
