The Gallura landscape is characterised by its granite rocks and its harsh mountains that, even if not particularly high (Monte Limbara reaches 1350 metres above sea level), have constituted for millennia a barrier between this region and the nearby territories of Baronie and Montalbo. The countryside (municipalities of Arzachena, Luogosanto, Aggius, Tempio Pausania) is scarcely inhabited and it is still possible, in some areas, to see the organisation of the territory into folds and pens.
